While broken bones and similar injuries are best attended to in an ER, minor sports injuries are treatable in a center for urgent care in Anchorage. These facilities tend to non-life-threatening conditions that do not warrant ER admission. Sports medicine cases successfully treated in urgent care settings include minor fractures, sprains, and muscle strains, as well as abrasions or minor wounds.
These centers have a host of equipment such as x-ray machines, which are used to establish a baseline for treating fractures and sprains. Suturing of wounds in a sterile environment may also be done in these facilities.
